Day by day
- Day 1
Londorossi Gate → Mti Mkubwa Camp
Drive from Arusha to Londorossi Gate (2,250m). Trek through rainforest to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) camp at 2,820m. 3–4 hrs walking.
- Day 2
Mti Mkubwa → Shira 1 Camp
Climb out of the forest onto Shira Plateau. Camp at Shira 1 (3,505m). 5–6 hrs.
- Day 3
Shira 1 → Shira 2 Camp
Easier acclimatisation day across the plateau to Shira 2 (3,810m). 4–5 hrs.
- Day 4
Shira 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp
Climb high to Lava Tower (4,640m) for acclimatisation, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m). 6–7 hrs.
- Day 5
Barranco → Karanga → Barafu Camp
Scramble up the Barranco Wall, lunch at Karanga, then push on to Barafu base camp (4,673m). Early dinner and bed by 7pm. 7 hrs.
- Day 6
Summit Day → Mweka Camp
Midnight start to Stella Point and on to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) for sunrise. Descend to Barafu, continue to Mweka Camp (3,100m). 12–14 hrs.
- Day 7
Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Arusha
Final descent through rainforest. Summit certificates at the gate. Transfer to Arusha for a celebratory dinner. 3–4 hrs.
